Welcome to Nancy & Ting’s EDUC 5041 blog. This blog aims to provide a critical review and analysis of the 2018 Academy Award-winning film Green Book directed by Peter Farrelly. Although North America has come a long way since the 1960s in addressing its racial issues, much of the themes and concepts presented in Green Book remain relevant to this day. This is a film that has resonated with us as we reflect on our own journey of studying abroad here in Canada. Through this critical evaluation of Green Book, we hope that readers will be able to broaden their insights into the contemporary racial/ethnic stratification and prejudice that still pervades Canada. In addition to a thematic analysis, we will also be conducting a contextual analysis that addresses the criticisms and controversy surrounding the film.
